Indian basketball has taken a significant step forward as the Pro International Basketball League (INBL Pro U25) officially kicked off in New Delhi on February 2. The 23-day tournament, featuring six competitive teams, has been launched with the goal of developing and promoting basketball in India.
For years, basketball in India has faced challenges like lack of infrastructure and limited tournaments beyond the National Championships and Federation Cup. These issues have affected India’s structured play, leading to a drop in FIBA rankings—from 50th place in 2010 to 82nd in 2024. With India bidding for the 2036 Olympics, modern investments in sports are crucial, making basketball a key focus for future development.
Originally introduced in 2021, INBL has now evolved into the Pro U25 format, offering better opportunities for young and college players to showcase their talent on a structured platform.
Teams Competing in INBL Pro U25 2025
This year’s tournament features six teams battling for glory:
- Chennai Heat
- Delhi Dribblers
- Gujarat Stallions
- Mumbai Titans
- Punjab Warriors
- Hyderabad Falcons
All matches will take place at Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, with free public entry until February 24.
